A fetch key is an API key that gives read-only access to published content. Production websites and apps use it with the Fetch API and GraphQL API. It cannot read staging content.
A fetch key reads every published item in its instance; it is not scoped to one sitemap. View and regenerate keys in Settings > API Keys, and keep them out of version control.
