# Shared Content

**Shared content** is linked content that points at a content list that already exists in your instance. A field can link to the entire list, or to specific items from it, in which case the selected IDs are stored in a separate, usually hidden, field.

Use shared content when the same content is reused across many items, components or pages, such as categories, tags or an author. When a shared item changes, it changes everywhere it is used.
